OLD SYSTEM I

Life was based on agriculture and animal husbandry. Tools such as the rake, plough, etc. were part of the traditional landscape. Corn and wheat were transformed into flour in the mills. Apples were pressed in cider presses, and there were winepresses for the pressing of grapes, abundant in the region, to make txakoli wine.

Ironworks completed the region´s economy. Iron was extracted from the Montes de Triano (situated between Barakaldo and Muskiz) and transformed into metal pieces at the many ironworks distributed throughout the region: Azkarai (Gordexola), El Pobal (Muskiz), Artekona (Gordexola), etc...
